NLP for the Music World

Neuro-Linguistic Progrmming [NLP] is the study of human excellence, and of the structure of our experience. It brings unconscious helping and hindering patterns of behavior into awareness, thus gives us informed choices about our strategies of thinking and behaving.

NLP for the Music World and its subsidiary Piano Play The NLP Way are among the first promoters of the connection between NLP and the music world of its type in the UK, introducing this impactful style of teaching through coaching.

The roots of professional coaching can be traced back to the Inner Game books of the mid 1970s. In these books W. Timothy Gallwey suggested a paradigm shift in sports coaching. He had noticed that players self-corrected when he coached with open questions instead of catching errors and offering suggestions. In fact, when a player relaxed and held a picture and feeling of the desired result, the player improved. The player had corrected, without even knowing s/he had ever been in error, unselfconsciously. As the principles of the Inner Game were applied to professional development, especially to the field of business, the value of individual coaching became apparent.

This principle can very successfully be applied to teaching and performing music.

The several levels of application can be summarized as follows:

In work with Individuals:
Using NLP tools in teaching:
. - Useful learning, practising and performing behaviors,
. - Thinking strategies,
. - Modeling behaviors, attitudes, values & identities [of famous artists etc.]
. - Installing & enhancing memorizing skills
. - Balancing musical learning through the Visual, Auditory & Kinesthetic Representational Systems
. - Performing portation, confidence and public interaction issues
. - Beliefs about performing potential,
. - Identity as and of a performing artist

For work with educational and other related institutions & instrumental formations:

. - Promoting impeccable organization of the working environment (thus bringing in savings in time, money and NRG),
. - Improving communication among members of the group concerned, AND their understanding of its value
. - Improving efficiency of the group members' work-related behaviors, . - Strengthening the group members' capabilities,
. - Refining thinking strategies,
. - Emphasizing and instilling the true value of putting work into the hours rather than hours into the work,
-, improving & refining members' and groups' concentration
